Dear Grade 3 Teachers,

You and your class are invited to participate in the St. John Ambulance
We Can Help First Aid Awareness & Safety Program, free of charge
with the kind support of the Masons and their concordant bodies. Since
1995 more than 145,000 Grade 3 students have been introduced to First Aid
and safety awareness through this successful program.

The 10 lessons in We Can Help were developed for students between
the ages of 7 to 10 years and the program

              • introduces students to basic First Aid,
              • makes students aware of the importance of safety and encourages
them to develo safe habits for life, and
              • teaches students that they can help others as well as themselves.

We Can Help has instructional flexibility and is designed for integration into
the elementary school curriculum K-9 (Health & Life Skills Program of Studies;
Safety & Responsibility Wellness 3.8, 3.9 & 3.10, Alberta Learning). All
components can be used independently in 15 to 30-minute sessions or
together as a comprehensive course. The suggested instruction time for the
program is from five to six hours, but this time frame may be adjusted to meet
the needs of you and your students.

Course materials include an instructor’s resource book with lesson plans, an
activity book for the students, a set of classroom posters suitable for
photocopying and coloring, and a certificate for each student at the completion
of the program.

The We Can Help materials are completely free-of-charge for grade 3 students.

To receive the materials please download the Order Form, complete it and
e-mail it to
Dawn.sinclair@stjohn.ab.ca or fax to 780-482-7864
or mail it to the St. John Ambulance Provincial Office. (12304-118Ave.,
Edmonton, AB T5L 5G8)

May the 2009 – 2010 school year be rewarding and safe for you and your
school community. If we can be of assistance in meeting your school’s First Aid
and safety needs, please contact the St. John Ambulance office nearest you.

Sincerely,
Beverly Lafortune
