Health Care Provider (HCP)
CPR Level Course Information

St. John Ambulance offers the Health Care Provider
(HCP) Level CPR course. This course includes all CPR skills plus advanced skills such as artificial respiration, use of bag valve masks, and AED training. This
course meets the national protocols and guidelines.

The content of this course is appropriate for
individuals who are working or plan to be working in
the health care field and require this level of training.

A re-certification course is also available for
individuals who have a current HCP Level CPR
certificate and wish to re-certify their skills.

Important Information about
HCP Level CPR in Alberta

Not all health care workers may require the HCP
Level CPR. Those who have a low probability of
performing CPR may be eligible to take Level A
(adult CPR) or Level C (adult, child & infant CPR).

It is important for health care workers to confirm
what level of CPR their employer requires before
registering for a course.

Each professional association and registering body determines the level of training required to maintain their professional designation. It is important for health care workers to confirm their registration requirements and whether there are any restrictions on training agency certificates accepted, before registering for a course.

Please note that only the Heart & Stroke Foundation Canada (HSFC) HCP Level CPR course is accepted as a pre-requisite for the HSFC Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric (PALS) courses.
