Provincial Awards of Excellence

Each year St. John Ambulance Alberta Council recognizes individuals, or organizations, who go above and beyond what is expected. Their contribution is acknowledged in the presentation of Awards of Excellence at the Annual Investiture Ceremony, held in the Alberta Legislature, Saturday, June 5, 2010.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors Award
The Chairman of the Board of Directors Award recognizes outstanding individuals, groups or corporations for work or research that improves the health, safety and quality of the everyday lives of Albertans, or in the workplace or education system.  The scope of the award includes initiatives, programs or research in the field of medicine, safety and wellness that fits within the spirit of the award.

You are invited to nominate an individual, group of individuals or organizations whose work or research has demonstrated a commitment to making life better for Albertans.  Nominees for the Chairman of the Board of Directors award may be:

 - Individuals who are researchers, practicing physicians, safety professionals, or health care providers.

 - Corporations, including small business and industry, which have developed outstanding corporate health and safety programs or environmental health and safety programs.

 - Public sector organizations: health facilities, public systems such as schools and hospitals.

 

Edgar L. Boyd Award
The Edgar L. Boyd Award for Excellence in Voluntary Service recognizes an outstanding St. John Ambulance volunteer for dedication and commitment to the values and principles of St. John, and for improving the health, safety & quality of everyday life in their community.

You are invited to nominate a St. John Community Service, Association or Fellowship volunteer who does not receive remuneration, or a Board volunteer who meets the criteria.

 

The Lyle E. Sproat Award
The Lyle E. Sproat Award honours individuals who have demonstrated excellence in instructing St. John Ambulance programs, enabling those they teach to improve their health, safety and quality of life.

You are invited to nominate an Instructor, an Instructor Trainer either in the Community Services or Association who demonstration the highest quality of program delivery and professionalism in their teaching.  The nominee must be an instructor in good standing and fit the profile outlined in the criteria section.

 

The Dr. G.R.A. Rice Memorial Award
The Dr. G.R.A. Rice Memorial Award honours excellence in news coveratge related to health and safety issues.  Presented to an individual, a group or a corpoation working within the electronic or print media, the Rice Award is a major media achievement award.  It is designed to raise the receipient's profile among the public as a reputable and realiable reporter of health, safety and quality of life issues.

The Rice Award was created in memory of Alberta media pioneer Dr. George R. A. Rice.  It recognizes his lifetime chievement and his commitment to excellence in media and communications and to the values of health, safety and quality of life.

You are invited to nominate an individual, group or organization in the media that has demonstrated excellence in covering health and safety issues.  The nominee should be part of the print media (major dailies, weeklies and biweeklies, Alberta produced magazines and books) or electronic media, including television, radio and the internet.  Promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, direct mail pieces and "underground" literature are not eligible.

 

Vice Prior's Award
The Vice Prior's Award for Excellence in Service to the Order of St. John honours a Member of the Order for their contribution to Alberta Council and the Province of Alberta.  This award was established by St. John Council for Alberta in 2004 and approved by the former Vice Prior of the Order for St. John in Alberta, the late Honourable Lois Hole.

You are invited to nominate a Member of the Order whose dedication and efforts have significantly enhanced Alberta Council's ability to achieve its mission: to enable Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community service.
