First Aid in the Wilderness         

Cost: $200
Time: 2 days

St. John Ambulance Wilderness First Aid is a comprehensive program for those who live, work and play in the wilderness. This specialized first aid and safety course focuses on how to take care of casualties when medical help is not readily available.
We'll prepare you with skills and knowledge to treat injuries and promote recovery when you are hours, or even days, away from emergency medical aid. Topics covered include:

* cold exposure
* dental emergencies
* burns
* gunshot wounds
* broken bones
* stomach ailments
* spinal injuries
* animal bites
* and much, much more!

Learn How To:

* meet the special challenges of wilderness first aid
* improvise first aid supplies
* transport a casualty to safety
* arrange for medical help

Great for outdoor enthusiasts, guides, hunters, campers, youth groups, school programs and remote industrial workers. Provides additional information and skills to enhance an individual’s ability to provide care in a remote setting.

Minimum age: 16 years
Pre-requisite: Standard First Aid
Students receive: First on the Scene: Student Reference Guide, certificate and wallet card;
First Aid in the Wilderness Certificate with CPR B valid for: 3 years

*The length of St. John Ambulance courses may vary depending on modules selected and provincial or territorial regulations.

With groups of 8 or more, we may be able to deliver the course on your site. Please call for more info.

This course usually takes place over a Friday night and a full weekend. Course fee does not include food, shelter or transportation. Please call your local Centre for details.
