Course Information:

Advanced First Aid (AFA)     
Cost: $950
Time: 80 hours 
This course provides a more in-depth coverage of basic First Aid and also includes triage, rescue, advanced packaging, oxygen administration, and AED certification. It is ideal for workplace first aiders and response teams requiring a higher level of training and is approved by Alberta Workplace Health & Safety as meeting the requirements for Advanced First Aid. Minimum age: 16 years.

Pre-requisite: Standard First Aid current within 1 year from any Alberta Workplace Health & Safety recognized training agency.

Advanced First Aid Recertification     Cost: $450
Time: 27 hours 
This course is designed for individuals who require recertification of their Advanced
First Aid certificate. Essential skills are reviewed along with any changes in protocol
or scope of practice. To be eligible for Advanced First Aid recertification the student’s
last course must have been a complete AFA course.
Min. age:16 years


Pre-requisite: Current SJA Advanced First Aid certificate.

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)     Cost: $1050
Time: 80 hours 

This course provides advanced level knowledge and skills to prepare
students for the pre-hospital emergency care field. This course is approved by
the Alberta College of Paramedics and meets the requirement for registration
and examination at the EMR level.

Approximately 100 hours of pre-course study is required prior to the class start date
and is in addition to the scheduled class time.
Minimum age: 18 years.

Pre-requisite: Enhanced Standard First Aid current within 6 months or equivalent.Accepted equivalency is a two day SFA–Level C CPR with AED and AR from a
nationally recognized training agency (Red Cross, Ski Patrol, Lifesaving, Heart &
Stroke, or other SJA Councils).

Certification Length: N/A. Course completion training card only. Students are required
to register with the Alberta College of Paramedics and successfully complete the
Provincial EMR exam for certification.

 

Emergency Medical Responder Refresher         Cost: $450
Time: 27 hours 

This course is designed for individuals who require a refresher of their EMR training to register with the Alberta College of Paramedics. Essential skills are reviewed and tested along with any changes in protocols or scope of practice.
Min. age: 18 years

Pre-requisite: Evidence of current EMR Training from a recognized Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) accredited training agency for EMR refresher.

Certification Length: N/A. Course completion training card only.

 

Emergency Medical Responder Challenge          Cost: $300
Time: 20 hours 
This challenge course is designed for individuals who have current Advanced
First Aid certification or higher level of training and experience, such as EMR level,
but do not have a valid Alberta EMR training card as required by the Alberta College
of Paramedics (ACP) to write the Provincial Exam and qualify for registration with
ACP in Alberta.
Min. age: 18 years

Pre-requisite: Current Advanced First Aid certificate or EMR or equivalent training
from a recognized training agency within Canada; MFR – Advanced Level 2 or
BC - OFA Level 3 with AB Endorsement. Must also have current CPR – HCP level
within 6 months of registration for this course.

Certification Length: N/A. Course completion training card only.

Instructor Development Program (IDP)  Cost: $600
Time: 40 hours 

The IDP Program prepares participants to become nationally qualified
St. John Ambulance First Aid and CPR Instructors. This 40-hour course is
comprised of three modules: 1) Instructor Development - includes
the application of adult learning principles, presentation skills, training
strategies, coaching skills, evaluation techniques, and demonstration skills;
2) Administration, Policies & Procedures; and 3) Curriculum Orientation.
Min. age: 18 years

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are required to
team-teach and be monitored for certification as a St. John Ambulance
Instructor and to qualify for instructor licensing by Alberta Council.

The certificate is valid for three years.

Pre-requisites: St. John Ambulance’s Enhanced Standard First Aid
certificate, completed within 6 months of course start date. Candidates
are also required to provide evidence of a clear criminal record dated
within 6 months of application date.

Health Care Provider (HCP) CPR Cost: $100
Time: 1 day
HCP CPR is for individuals who are working or plan to be working in the
Health Care field and require the Health Care Provider level of CPR.
The course includes all CPR skills plus advanced skills such as artificial
respiration and use of bag valve masks and AEDs.

Min.age: 16 years

 

Health Care Provider (HCP) CPR  Recertification     Cost: $60
Time: 1/2 day
This course is for individuals who have a current HCP Level CPR
certificate and wish to recertify their skills.

Oxygen Administration      Cost: $105
Time: 1/2 day
This course provides the basics of providing supplemental oxygen
during respiratoryemergencies.

Marine First Aid – Basic Course    Cost: $160
Time: 2 days
In this course, students will learn about Emergency First Aid
procedures, CPR for adults, Rescue Carries and Burns, basic Anatomy
and Physiology, Advanced Packaging and Transport, as well as gain an
orientation to rescue kits found on board seafaring vessels. This course
meets the requirements of Transport Canada.
Min. age: 16 years

 

Marine First Aid – Advanced Course    Cost: $550
Time: 5 days
This course meets the requirements of Transport Canada and includes all the Basic Course components plus advanced First Aid procedures to assist with treatment of the most common off-shore medical conditions and emergencies. Students will also learn all levels of CPR, the use of an AED, moving and transporting casualties, airway management, and knowledge in topics including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and communications.. Min. age: 16 years
