POSITION PROFILE:

Summary
The position is responsible for the development, integration and maintenance of web sites and web applications to further the business and marketing objectives of St. John Ambulance (SJA).  This includes St. John Ambulance’s bilingual national website including but not limited to E-registration (online courses) and E-commerce (product sales), as well as a variety of other web sites and web applications controlled or utilized by SJA.

The Website Developer position reports to and works closely with the Website Presence/Digital Marketing Coordinator. He/She also interacts with the Chief Information Officer by acting as a liaison on all hardware, operating system and infrastructure acquisition and issues. The incumbent also collaborates to develop plans for the introduction of new technologies and techniques and will also be interacting with SJA’s managed IT Services Vendor by acting as SJA’s  liaison on all performance and Service Level Agreement issues.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Planning, development and maintenance of the back end of SJA’s web sites and web applications that align with business requirements and involve multiple operating systems/applications (e.g. PHP, Microsoft SharePoint, SharePoint SQL 2005 DB Server and SharePoint IIS Server, etc.  Windows 2003 in an out-sourced environment).
  2. Oversee and advise on web site and web application development initiatives and provide technical and web support and services to internal clients.  Provide training to internal clients and new staff on web applications and advise on guidelines and standards for websites and web applications. 
  3. Perform quality assurance testing and end-user assessments to ensure functionality and usability of websites and web applications.
  4. Assess the efficacy of web site and web application strategies for achieving organizational objectives. Produce related reports to advise SJA management and/or SJA Councils on opportunities for moving forward.  
  5. Provides advice on the technical and business implications of new or re-developed web sites and web applications, on related business and partnership opportunities.  
  6. Contributes to web site plans, requirements documentation, implementation plans, and statistics reporting as they relate to web site and web application development. 
  7. Keeps abreast of current and future web technology in relation to SJA’s overall business and marketing objectives.

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Post-secondary education in web development or equivalent work experience.
  2. Knowledge of Web development, MS Sharepoint Server, MS Dynamics (CRM), asp.net, php, SQL, HTML, Javascript, AJAX, CSS, web administration tools, Adobe/Macromedia Technologies and Software (Flash, Photoshop, Acrobat),  Windows XP/Vista, Microsoft Office.
  3. Excellent communication skills. Fluency in French is a definite asset.
  4. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  5. Excellent multi-tasking skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  6. Strong organization skills, with the ability to determine priorities.
  7. Ability to work under pressure in order to meet tight deadlines.

Working Conditions:

1. Ability to have flexible hours at peak times associated with meetings; projects or production deadlines.
