Former Lord Prior, Eric Barry, GCStJ

In recognition of the significant contributions of the former Lord Prior, Eric Barry, GCStJ, to the humanitarian work of the Order of St. John, at the international level and on the occasion of the completion of his tenure as Lord Prior for the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (June 2008), the Priory of Canada is honoured to have launched the Eric Barry International Development Fund.

The goal of the fund is to provide financial support to St. John Establishments and individual St. John Ambulance volunteers in developing countries.

In particular, the establishment of this fund recognizes Mr. Barry's commitment to enhance St. John's presence in developing countries, with special interest in South Africa. Initially, the Fund will support the Priory of Canada commitment to the Grand Prior's Appeal. In subsequent years, the Fund may be used to provide financial support to St. John Establishments seeking to implement health related projects or to build organizational capacity.

We would like to thank Alberta, British Columbia/Yukon, Northwest/Nunavut and Ontario Councils for their pledges of support at the launch of this Fund.
