It’s Fire Prevention Week –
Prevent Home Fires© and Injury with St. John Ambulance
New home safety products and first aid skills reduce hazards

October 3, 2008 Ottawa – In conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week [October 5 - 11, 2008] St. John Ambulance is proud to present its suite of innovative home safety products.  St. John Ambulance is reminding Canadians to be first aid trained and to think about having reliable fire safety products on hand to help prevent fires in their homes.

Common causes of home fires: 

  • Smokers’ materials and open flame
  • Cooking equipment [stove, range, warming appliances]
  • Heating equipment [central heating, fireplace, chimney, flue pipe, radiant heating]

Based on the common causes of fire, St. John Ambulance offers the following products that will help prevent fires, extinguish fires, or provide protection from smoke inhalation in the case of fire and burn relief:

FireEx Fire Blanket - extinguishes small fires, easy to use, handy to store
FireEx Safety Table Mat - prevents small fires, increases home safety, quality approved
Safe Escape - protective respiratory hood, protects against lethal smoke, heat resistant to 300°F
BurnJel products - relieve pain, remove heat from burn area, prevent infections, stops burn progression

”During this week, St. John Ambulance is promoting public awareness of the importance of having first aid skills and supplies to protect ourselves from fire,” says Ian Bennett, chief executive officer, St. John Ambulance. This suite of St. John Ambulance products is available at leading retailers, St. John Ambulance locations and the national website at www.sja.ca.  Proceeds from the sale of these products and all other St. John Ambulance activities are re-invested into our array of charitable, community service programs, he says.
