From October 22nd - 24th the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of St. John Ambulance hosted its 34th Annual Provincial Training for Life Conference in Gander at the Albatross Hotel.

Celebrating 100 years in Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John Ambulance has a rich history of members performing extraordinary service of helping save lives! Each year in Newfoundland and Labrador St. John Ambulance offers invaluable training to instructors and community service volunteers from all areas of the province. This year the Training for Life Conference will host approximately 200 instructors and volunteers who will participate in 19 workshops and educational sessions Highlighting this event is special guest speaker Master Corporal Michael Bursey who recently was awarded the Medal of Military Valour "for courage and decisive leadership when exposed to sustained enemy fire." Master Corporal "repeatedly returned to a burning vehicle filled with exploding ordnance, to help extract and tend to casualties." Due to his effort, five people were saved; however, three of his comrades were killed. On the occasion of our 100th Anniversary, we were truly honoured to have Master Corporal Bursey speak at our awards banquet Saturday evening to share his experiences of volunteering with St. John Ambulance and how that influenced him in his career choice.
