Be an Instructor, NL Council

Do you have what it takes to teach?

The St. John Ambulance Instructor program is recognized as one of the best of its kind. When asked, our clients consistently tell us they are “satisfied" or "very satisfied" with the quality of instruction they receive. This five-day program focuses on Instructor development, the application of adult learning principles, presentation skills, training strategies, coaching skills, evaluation and counseling techniques and demonstration skills. Participants play an active role in the course which uses a variety of interactive activities to support the course material under the supervision of a certified St. John Ambulance Instructor-Trainer. Participants are provided with in-class time to practice new materials and are evaluated on their progress throughout the course. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be certified as a nationally recognized First Aid/CPR Instructor.

There are two Instructor certification programs:

  1. Instructor Development Program
(For people who want to become instructors in first aid and CPR.)
  2. Instructor-Trainer Certification Program
    (An Instructor-Trainer development program.)
What are some of the benefits of being an instructor?
  • As part of a worldwide organization, teaching opportunities are available outside Canada, in the Caribbean, and other countries worldwide.
  • Wide array of resources available to instructors available on the SJA intranet
  • A national instructor newsletter.
