Workplace Safety

In Ontario, all employers covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act are required to have first aid equipment, facilities, and trained personnel in all workplaces.

Regulation 1101 of the Ontario Health & Safety Act outlines what each employers is obligated to provide, including guidelines for the content of first aid boxes, required signage, and first aid training for workers.

St. John Ambulance will work with you to meet your workplace first aid & safety requirements:

Training Requirements

We offer both Emergency First Aid with Level A CPR (meeting training requirements for workplaces with five or less employees per shift) as well as Standard First Aid with Level A CPR (meeting training requirements for workplaces with more than five employees per shift).  Please refer to our Course Calendar page to view a listing of course locations and dates.

First Aid Kit Requirements

We carry a variety of kits meeting WSIB regulations:

  • The Ontario A1 Kit is for workplaces with 5 or less employees.

  • The Ontario A2 Kit is for workplaces with 6-12 employees.

  • The Ontario A3 Kit is for workplaces with16-199 employees.

  • The Ontario Bush/Vehicle Kit is a legislated requirement for bush and farm workers or in any vehicle that transports workers.

  • The Ontario Transport Kit is a legislated requirement for the employer of workers engaged in transporting goods outside an urban area in a vehicle, workers operating heavy construction & maintenance equipment, or workers operating a bus on a non-urban route.

Section 6 of Regulation 1101 requires that employers shall inspect first aid kits and their contents at not less than quarter-yearly intervals and mark the inspection card accordingly.  To help employers meet this requirement, St. John Ambulance offers a Kit Inspection Service.  A St. John Ambulance representative will call at your facility quarterly and inspect & restock your kit in accordance with regulations.  For more information on this service, please contact Melanie, at (807) 345-1712.
