Emergency First Aid with CPR A + AED

This course is well suited to those who would like the basics in First Aid and CPR in a one-day program. This offering is suitable for general interest and most companies with no more than five employees. Provincially recognized certificates, which meet Canadian Labour Code requirements, valid for three years, issued upon successful completion. Topics covered include casualty management, medical conditions, burns, severe bleeding and wound care. Course fee includes St. John Ambulance’s First Aid Reference Guide. Emergency level first aid training with one-rescuer adult [8+ years] resuscitation (CPR Level A) and automated external defibrillation (AED) training.


Standard Level First Aid with CPR and AED

Designed to meet industry, business and government requirements, Standard Level First Aid is a modular course for those who want to learn more first aid skills and for most companies with more than five employees. Provincially recognized certificates, which meet Canadian Labour Code requirements, valid for three years, issued upon successful completion. Topics include casualty management; medical conditions; burns; severe bleeding and wound care; secondary survey; eye Injuries; heat and cold injuries; chest injuries; rescue carries; poisoning; bone and joint injuries; multiple casualty management and more. Course fee includes St. John Ambulance’s First Aid Reference Guide. Contact us for more information on provincial/federal government requirements.
Standard level first aid training with one-rescuer adult [8+ years] resuscitation (CPR Level A) and automated external defibrillation (AED) training.

Standard level first aid training with one-rescuer adult, child and infant [all age groups] resuscitation (CPR Level C) and automated external defibrillation (AED) training. NOTE: This course was known as Standard First Aid with CPR Level B before June 1, 2011.

Standard level first aid training is combined with CPR for Health Care Providers (HCP). Skills covered include one and two-rescuer CPR for adults, children and infants (all ages), artificial respiration, use of a bag-valve-mask (BVM), and HCP-specific protocols. Annual recertification in CPR Level HCP is strongly recommended.

This course is designed for persons holding a valid St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid and CPR (Level A, B, C or HCP) certificate and want to renew it for an additional three years. First aid renewals are not permitted if the certificate was not issued by St. John, has expired, or is a renewal certificate. Further renewal must be alternated with attendance on a full (two-day) course. Participants are strongly advised to review their material before attending in order to ensure successful completion.


CPR and AED only

No matter where you are, people of all ages can suffer from sudden cardiac arrest. Regardless of the cause, from choking to heart attack, the situation is life threatening and requires swift, effective response. Knowing what to do can save a life. St. John Ambulance can give you the skills you need. All levels of CPR + AED courses include introduction to and hands-on training with an automated external defibrillator (AED). Annual recertification in CPR + AED is recommended. Course fee includes a St. John Ambulance’s First Aid Reference Guide.
This course is designed for persons who have never taken a CPR course; it has been some time since they have taken a course; or they wish to upgrade their level of CPR training.

This course is designed for persons holding a valid St. John Ambulance CPR certificate and want to refresh their skills, or are required to renew their CPR certificate annually. Participants are strongly advised to review their material before attending in order to ensure successful completion.


Specialty Courses

Courses are designed to meet Transport Canada Regulation TP13008 - Training standards for Marine First Aid and Marine Medical Care (see http://www.tc.gc.ca/marinesafety/bulletins/2009/03-eng.htm ). Nationally recognized certificates, valid for five years, are issued by Transport Canada upon successful completion. There are no renewal courses available for these levels of training. Annual recertification of CPR is recommended. A valid CDN number issued by Transport Canada is required to participate in this course. Course fee includes a St. John Ambulance’s First Aid & CPR Student Reference Guide and Marine Supplement.

A comprehensive program for those who live, work, and play in the Canadian wilderness. Students are prepared with the skills and knowledge to care for injuries and promote recovery when you are hours, or even days, away from emergency medical aid. An excellent program for Scout and Guide leaders, employees working in remote locations, campers, hikers, hunters, and others who enjoy wilderness recreational activities. Topics covered include: Wilderness Basics & Trip Planning; Emergency Scene Management; Airway and Breathing Emergencies; Circulatory Emergencies; Wound Care; Bone & Joint Injuries; Medical Emergencies; Environmental Emergencies; Poisons, Bites and Stings. Course fee includes a St. John Ambulance’s First Aid & CPR Student Reference Guide and Wilderness Supplement.

Some workplaces are more hazardous than others. St. John Ambulance offers advanced level training to those who require first-to-respond skills. From emergency professionals such as firefighters and police, to industry workers in high-risk environments, the Medical First Responder program can provide you with additional skills for employees in an industrial setting where injuries can be catastrophic, or outside medical assistance is limited.

Instructor Development Program
Are you interested in keeping your first aid skills at a high level? Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge? We are always looking for competent, dedicated people who would like to earn extra income while helping to educate the public. A background in teaching and/or experience in a health & safety field would be an asset. Prerequisites include a current St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid with CPR HCP certificate (within the last year), a completed IDP Application Package and a resume. Before completing the course, instructor-candidates are required to complete a theoretical-threshold exam, a pre-course interview and a practical skills evaluation. Non-Certificate Courses

A course created for the 11 - 14 year old age group designed to teach babysitting, leadership and first aid skills in a fun and informative way. Students learn how to care for infants, toddlers, and older children, what questions to ask parents, how to give first aid, and what to do in emergencies. Activity book activities, role-playing and hands-on practice teach skills and build confidence. Each student will receive a What Every Babysitter Should Know handbook, and a Babysitter First Aid Kit. Upon successful completion, participants receive a St. John Ambulance Babysitter's attendance certificate.

Pet First Aid
This course gives pet lovers the skills required to provide first aid to an injured pet. All participants receive a Pet First Aid Kit and Manual. The program includes a wide variety of topics including injury prevention, choking & CPR, bleeding & wound care, fractures, medical conditions & more! Course fee includes a Pet First Aid Manual and Pet First Aid Kit. Contact us for upcoming dates.
