The Order of St. John Emblem

The emblem of the Order is a white eight-pointed cross embellished in the four principal angles alternately with a lion passant guardant and a unicorn passant.

Protocol for Use
The emblem of the Order may only be used on articles (such as flags, paper, and publications) which pertains to the Order and belongs to, is used by, or issued by National Office.  Any other use of the emblem is prohibited unless it has been otherwise authorized by the Prior on the recommendation of Priory Chapter.

The four arms of the cross signify the cardinal virtues: Prudence, Temperance, Justice and Fortitude.

The eight points signify the beatitudes: Humility, Compassion, Courtesy, Devotion, Mercy, Purity, Peace and Endurance.

The cross is always white and the lions/unicorns are traditionally either white or silver.  However, they appear in gold on items produced for Bailiffs, Dames Grand Cross, Knights or Dames of Justice or if the Grand Prior has approved the use of this colour for flags on which the emblem is displayed. The lions/unicorns must always be shown standing upright.

Protocol for Use
The roundel and organization name, St. John, must always appear together and must not be altered under any circumstances. The logo is a subsidiary logo in Canada to be used in conjunction with the St. John Ambulance logo as per the requirements outlined within the Visual Identity Manual.
