Establishment of St. John Ambulance in Canada

  • The first certificates in first aid were issued in Montreal in 1883 
  • The Canadian Branch of St. John Ambulance Association by a Special Act of Parliament in 1910 
  • Became a Commandery in 1933 
  • Established as a Priory in 1946 
  • Incorporated as a not-for-profit (charitable) organization in 1994 under the legal name “The Priory of Canada of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem”

The Board of Directors
Chairs of each of the provincial/territorial boards sit on the Board of the Priory of Canada (also referred to as Priory Council). In addition to the 11 provincial/territorial representatives, there are five (5) Officers (one of whom is non-voting member) comprising a total of 15 voting members. More» 

Priory Chapter Membership
The Priory Chapter is the governing body of the Priory of Canada (and thereby St. John Ambulance in Canada) and represents the membership across the country. Priory Chapter derives its authority from the Royal Charters, Statutes and Regulations of the Order of St. John, the Bylaws and Priory Rules. More»
