Privacy Statement for Event Sponsors

St. John Ambulance (SJA) is a charitable organization whose mission is to enable Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community service. Our members include Members of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (the “Order”), volunteers, Instructors, Fellowships, donors and employees. Our services and programs are delivered through our provincial and territorial councils, which are provincially incorporated charities, across Canada. Within this Privacy Policy, St. John Ambulance refers to the National Office and its provincial and territorial councils and their respective operating centres (branches).

St. John Ambulance is committed to protecting all the personal information that is shared with us when one becomes a member of St. John. We value the trust of our members.

How does St. John Ambulance define Personal Information?
Personal information refers to information that can specifically identify you as an individual such as age, name, purchasing and spending habits, marital status, family status, education, home address and telephone number including credit card information or transaction records.

St. John Ambulance Community Service Activities and our Volunteers
St. John Ambulance has 25,000 volunteers that provide community services across Canada. Our volunteers range from first aid/response community service; therapy dog volunteers; youth leadership; training program and various other programs. Our community service programs are diverse and reach far into our communities. To engage people in volunteering, St. John Ambulance strives to provide the best available tools for our volunteers; to be accessible and interesting; to be challenging; to be able to rewards our volunteers for their efforts; and to be able to meet volunteer needs. To be able to achieve all this - we require our volunteers' trust in portuecting their personal information.
 
As part of our community services delivery assessment, information garnered from a Sponsor’s Event may include the number and approximate age group of spectators and/or participants, special equipment needs such as first aid posts and AED equipment, and the relative duration of the event. This information is used to assess community service requirements, including pre-event requirements, post-event evaluation, service related fees, outcome measures and repeat follow-up. Non-identifiable personal information, specifically the types of injuries or illnesses treated, is used to complete the above tasks.
 
Sharing Personal Information
Names and/or lists containing the names of our volunteers who attend community events as patient care providers or emergency medical responders shall be provided following volunteer consent.  As a patient care provider at a community event, our commitment to the protection of personal information also extends to the people we administer care. As such, we are obligated to protect the personal information of our patients. The medical information we collect for a patient care record when administering first aid to an individual is personal and confidential and can only be released with the consent of the individual or directly to personnel involved in the care of the patient at the scene of the incident.
