Privacy Statement for Student

St. John Ambulance is a charitable organization whose mission is to enable Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community service. St. John Ambulance is the leader in first aid and CPR training. More than 550,000 people every year learn how to save lives by taking a St. John Ambulance course. Our courses and programs are delivered through our provincial and territorial councils, which are provincially incorporated charities, across Canada. Within this Privacy Policy, St. John Ambulance refers to the National Office and its provincial and territorial councils and their respective operating centres (branches).

St. John Ambulance’s Commitment to Your Privacy
St. John Ambulance is committed to protecting all the personal information that you share with us when you register for a St. John Ambulance course. We value the trust of our students, families and corporate clients who take our courses. As part of our commitment to you we want to you to know why we ask you to share your information, how we use it and provide you with the opportunity to change or update your information to ensure its accuracy.

How does St. John Ambulance define Personal Information?
Personal information refers to information that can specifically identify you as an individual such as age, name, purchasing and spending habits, marital status, family status, education, home address and telephone number including credit card information or transaction records.

How do we collect, use and disclose your information?
We collect your personal information at the time you register for a St. John Ambulance course to ensure you meet the course requirements, to ensure we have the proper information to issue and mail certificates, to collect course payment, and to update you on changes to course/program scheduling and/or location. To serve you better, renewal notices may be automatically issued for recertification. We will ask for your consent to provide you with new product and program information and to contact you regarding your interest in our volunteer community service programs. To meet business requirements, invoice and receipt of payment confirmation information is retained. We want you to know that we do not rent, sell or trade your information with any other organization.
 
St. John Ambulance protects your personal information you share with us.  Information stored on our servers and databases are located on a secure site, and information is user ID and password protected.  
 
Sharing Personal Information
St. John Ambulance will not use or disclose personal information except for the purpose for which it was collected unless the individual has consented or as required by law. If a course that has been paid by any third party such as a family member or an employer; St. John Ambulance will advise the third party if you have passed or failed and/or will provide the certificate (or a copy) to the third party but we will not provide course scores unless consent is received by the individual.  If you are taking a St. John Ambulance course at the request of your employer, and do not wish to receive information from St. John Ambulance, please use your employment address on your course registration forms. All information you provide to St. John Ambulance is voluntary.
 
At your request, you may access your personal information, including duplications of your current certification (a fee may be applicable), by contacting the closest St. John Ambulance office. Also, should you move to a different province or territory, and require information on your certificate applicability, expiration or recertification requirements, please see our website, www.sja.ca. or contact your closest St. John Ambulance Office to request your information.
 
Your Privacy Choices
You have a choice when it concerns your personal information. To confirm or change any of your preferences or withdraw your consent at anytime, you can contact any St. John Ambulance office in your area. Please be aware that withdrawing your consent may prevent us from providing you with material or information on St. John Ambulance. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding your personal information as described above, please submit these in writing to your Provincial/Territorial Privacy Officer.
