Mama na Mwana
St John in Africa is preparing to launch Mama na Mwana, the first St John International Development Program (IDP) for improved Maternal, Newborn and Child Health in Africa.

Two years ago St. John recognised that we had an obligation to harness the experience and reach of St John to contribute to important international health goals and began our journey into
International Development Programmes.
Mama na Mwana is the first St John IDP and is the work of 5 St John Associations in Africa: Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, supported by the International Development team of the Order.
Through this programme St John will contribute to the Millennium Development Goals 4 & 5 in Maternal and Child health.
Our Vision: "a world where communities take action to strengthen the health of mothers and children"
To achieve our vision Mama na Mwana will:
Support pregnant women and new mothers with advice and information
Educate families through home visits raising awareness of danger signs in pregnancy, post natal care and basic hygiene for newborns
Reach out to involve men in family preparedness and newborn care
Train peer educators and teachers in sexual and reproductive health practices
Empower communities to uptake local mother and child services
