Public Access to AEDs – BC PAD Program Registry
When it comes to sudden cardiac arrest, AEDs can mean the difference between life and death. Time is of the essence; the probability of survival declines by 7-10% with each passing minute before AED application. With each passing minute being so critical, the BC PAD Program Registry helps people to locate the nearest AED in the least amount of time possible.
The BC PAD Program Registry contains a list of all publicly-available AEDs within BC and is a vital link to the timely retrieval of the defibrillators. Not only can bystanders access the information, but 911 dispatchers can also identify the nearest AED and provide directions on how to retrieve it.
You Can Make a Difference
In order to reach their maximum potential, AEDs should be located anywhere groups of people congregate, whether that be sporting arenas, churches, schools, or businesses. If your business or organization has an AED, you have the choice to make the life-saving device accessible to the public by
registering it.
Registering your device is a great way to help others who may not have access to an AED when a sudden cardiac arrest hits and it doesn’t cost you a dime. Keep in mind that any location with traffic of 1,000 adults over age of 35 during normal business hours can expect one incident of SCA every 5 years. Your AED could be the difference between life and death for one of these people.
